The Idea: SolSolution is a non-profit organization which aims to simultaneously generate clean, renewable electricity and increase the quality of education in underprivileged schools. Electricity generated by solar panels will provide a monetary means of obtaining necessary books, supplies, and teachers at needy schools.

How It Works: SolSolution targets needy schools as the recipients of grid-tied solar photovoltaic installations. Tax-exempt donations fund the purchase, installation, and maintenance of the solar-powered electrical systems. Clean electricity is generated on-site for schools to use and even sell back to the local electric utility companies. According to agreements with the schools and school districts, funds previously budgeted to pay for a school’s electric bill will be spent on educational resources. Any income from excess electrical generation will be used similarly.

Why It’s Important: SolSolution brings together scattered pieces of a social puzzle, and effectively pools the resources of individuals in order to simultaneously solve these prominent social problems:

  • Students in many areas lack proper educational resources.
  • Societies at large pollute their surroundings by utilizing environmentally destructive technologies to produce electricity.
  • Although many individuals recognize these educational and environmental problems, there are currently few, if any, viable options for addressing these issues simultaneously.
